Compounded High Concentration Salicylic Acid in Petrolatum
COMMON USES
Salicylic acid compounds are usually used for warts and areas of thickened skin such as calluses or corns. It works by eating away at the excess layers of the skin.
HOW TO USE THE MEDICATION
The medication is intended for topical application only. Do not allow medication to come into contact with unaffected skin. Do not get in eyes, ears, nose, mouth or anal-genital areas. These compounds are typically applied once a day at bedtime.

Steps for application:
1. Wash the affected area with soap and water making sure it is free of debris and dirt.
2. Soak the area in warm/hot water for 5-15 minutes.
3. Gently file down any easy to remove, softened, and excess skin with an emery board or pumice stone. (This allows penetration into the area). Wash and dry your hands.
4. Clean and dry the affected area again.
5. Apply a barrier ointment like vaseline around the affected area to protect the healthy skin.
6. Using a toothpick, Q-tip or gloved hand, apply the compound to the affected area.
7. Cover the area with a dressing or bandage to prevent distribution to unaffected areas.
Improvement is typically seen in the first 2 weeks, full resolution may take up to 12
weeks of treatment depending on the severity of the condition.
POSSIBLE ADVERSE AND SIDE EFFECTS
Skin irritation and peeling are expected with this treatment. – To minimize this, ensure a protective barrier is applied to the healthy skin, do not touch the product with bare hands, and dress the area to prevent the product from spreading.
If the product contacts healthy skin, wash well with soap and water.
Discontinue and speak to your pharmacist or prescriber if you experience severe burning or irritation.
STORAGE REQUIREMENTS
BUD (beyond use date) is180 days at room temperature. Refer to the date indicated on your prescription.
