Compounded Pink Lady Mouthwash Patient Monograph
COMMON USES
Pink lady compounds are used to reduce mouth pain and acid reflux. It consists of Lidocaine viscous 2% (topical pain reliever) and Almagel Plus (liquid antacid).
HOW TO USE THE MEDICATION
Consult the label on the bottle or pharmacy team for your specifi c instructions.
Always shake the bottle before dispensing. If the product is too thick to pour out, let it sit at room temperature for 15 minutes.
These compounds are usually swished in the mouth and/or gargled then spit out. You may also swish and swallow if the esophagus is affected; only swallow if directed by prescriber.
These medications work through direct contact with the affected areas, ensuring thorough coating of the area by swishing for at least 1-2 minutes. Do not rinse your mouth or drink anything for 15-30 minutes after using unless directed to.
These washes are typically used every 4-6 hours as needed for pain or 15-30 minutes before meals. Be cautious as the mouthwash causes numbing: avoid burning, freezing, or damaging your mouth while eating or drinking by checking the temperature of your food or drinks.
IMPORTANT: Do not exceed the prescribed dose especially if directed to swish and swallow.
POSSIBLE ADVERSE AND SIDE EFFECTS
This medication is generally well tolerated. If swallowed the antacid may cause constipation, slow digestion, fecal impaction and discoloration (white flecks), hemorrhoids, stomach cramps, unpleasant taste, nausea or vomiting.
Lidocaine can interfere with heart rhythms and cause arrhythmias. Check with your prescriber if you are at high risk.
STORAGE REQUIREMENTS
Store in the fridge, do not use it if there is a change in appearance, taste or smell of the product.
