HOW TO USE THE MEDICATION
This medication is to be swallowed. Shake well before drawing out the dose. It may be given with or without food.
The medication has a strong bitter taste. You may give in soft food or drink, as long as the whole amount is taken. Have something ready to help wash it down and remove the taste from the mouth. Measure out the prescribed amount as directed using an oral syringe or medication measuring cup. Give plenty of fluids while on this medication.
Improvement should be seen in the first few days of use. Finish the full course of antibiotics
unless otherwise directed. If there is no improvement or worsening of symptoms seek
reassessment by the prescriber.
If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the next dose, skip the
missed dose and resume the usual dosing schedule. Do not double dose.
POSSIBLE ADVERSE AND SIDE EFFECTS
The most common adverse effects seen with this medication are electrolyte imbalances, loss of
appetite, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and rash. If stomach upset occurs, try giving the next dose with food as this may help.
If you develop a rash seek medical advice from your prescriber or pharmacist. If you develop a rash with new blisters, peeling skin, or ulcers in your mouth, nose, eyes or genital regions seek immediate medical attention.
This medication contains sulfa. Do not use if allergic to sulfa unless under direct medical
supervision. If you develop shortness of breath, wheezing, tightness in the chest or swelling of the face, mouth, or throat seek immediate medical attention.
